Mobile apps are becoming the norm

There is no denying that having a mobile app is starting to become the norm for a lot of businesses. Many think mobile apps are solely for big name brands like Natwest and eBay, but of course they are wrong; more and more small and medium sized businesses are following the mobile trend, understanding that an effective mobile strategy is more than just opting for a mobile-friendly responsive website. Having just a website is no longer enough, as online activity is shifting slowly to mobile – having an app for your business has become a vital marketing tool that small business owners cannot do without.

We understand that there is still plenty of hesitation regarding ROI on mobile apps, it’s still a relatively new market for many businesses and therefore understanding and anticipating ROI is difficult. But I guess you are still asking, why exactly does your business NEED to have it’s own app?!

  1. Stay in front of your customers!

Apps have one key feature that a mobile responsive website does not – push notifications! I’m sure you are well aware what these are but in case… push notifications are the little reminders or updates you see pop up on your smartphone. These can be used for anything, a special offer you are running, a new blog post you’ve written, or simply a reminder to open the app and see what is new.  You can even introduce a reward system for those who use your app, giving them access to deals and pushing them to keep opening the app. This feature allows you to really stay at the forefront of your customers minds and engage with them, encouraging them to pay attention to your brand.

2. Build brand recognition

Having your own app will hugely contribute to building your brand name and the recognition of the company. In the simplest way, your logo or app icon will be present on your customers phones, being seen every time they browse through their phone for your app or another’s. You can do what you want with your own app; you can make it stylish, functional or informative. But to do it right, you should create an app that has features that your customers will love, while at the same time being well branded and beautifully designed. Also, the more often you can get customers engaging with your app, the sooner they will be inclined to buy your product or use your service.

3. Improve your customers experience

You may have created a website perfectly designed for your customers desktop experience. But as times are changing, how perfect is their mobile experience? For example, if your restaurant takes bookings online & regularly has online offers, could you make your customers lives easier by combining it into an ever present app, giving them the ability to book a table in a couple of clicks, or whip out a promo code when sat at the table. The ease of it all is sure to encourage repeat visits. Which leads me on to…

4. Loyalty. Make them loyal.

We are now in a world of offers, promos, cheaper prices, and it’s hard to really create true loyalty. A savvy buyer will shop around for a specific product or service before purchase, regardless of if they have used you previously. There is so much advertising out there, covering every social platform and website. By having an app, you can keep yourself engaged with your customers at all times, making them a loyal lover of your product or service just by being a “fingertip” away at all times.

5. Be the first!

Plenty of the big competitors are already creating or have created their own apps. But what about the small-mid sized companies who are your direct competition? These days mobile apps at the small business level are still rare, and this is where you can take a big leap ahead of your competitors. Delaying and contemplating if it’s really worthwhile may mean you end up behind and struggling to keep up. Did you know that mobile users spend three hours a day online on their phones, and about 90 percent of those three hours each day is spent interacting with apps on the mobile device? That means just over 10 percent is spent on mobile websites.

It’s needless to say that having a mobile app is going to be the standard of any business in the future. It seems like a huge decision to make for your business, but it is going set the foundation for the future of your business. Ready to take the plunge?
